George Benjamin Hughes (83) passed away Monday, November 13, 2023 at his home in Landenberg, PA.
Born February 12, 1940 in Dover, DE, George was the son of the late Clifford Tilden Hughes and Mary (Johnson) Hughes. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1958 then enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged after serving for 2 years. Upon his return from the military, he attended Goldie Beacom College. George began working at Dover Bank & Trust and eventually secured a job at 1st National Bank of Chester County, where he retired in 2003. After retirement, he went to work part-time driving for Enterprise Rental in order to fund his golf hobby.
George was a member of the Lions Club of Kennett Square, PA and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and was a huge Flyers fan. He loved animals and enjoyed traveling with his close friends every year.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Hughes of Landenberg, PA; one daughter, Melinda Hughes (Kevin) from Kennett Square, PA; two sisters, Regina Rudnick of Florida and Rebecca Weaver (George) of Greensboro, MD; and his pets, Dixie and Flash.
You are invited to visit with Georges Family and Friends from 2:00PM-3:00PM on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Church of the Advent, 401 N. Union Street, Kennett Square, PA, 19348. His life celebration memorial service will follow at 3:00PM. His funeral and interment were previously held in Greensboro, MD.
