Joan S. Bolton

     Joan Shupe Bolton, age 88, of West Grove, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thanksgiving day, November 23, 2023 at her home in West Grove, PA, surrounded and loved by her family.  She was the wife of Robert C. Bolton, to whom she was happily married for 66 years.  Born in Mountain City, TN, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Shupe and the late Helen McCormick Shupe. 

     Joan graduated from Kennett High School with honors.  In high school “Shupie” served as a member of the Record Club and chairman/typist for numerous clubs and committees. After high school she went on to Goldey Beacom College. Following college, she worked for Hercules as secretary to the company president. She went on to work for the National Bank and Trust Company of Kennett Square and finished her career at The Episcopal Church of the Advent where she worked for many years before retirement. 

     As a teenager, she could be found at the Candy Kitchen and library in Kennett Square. In early adulthood, Joan enjoyed antiquing (both buying and refinishing) and finding treasures at garage sales. She also had a deep love for her dogs, particularly collies. Later in life her interests were drawn to knitting, genealogy, blue herons, and church/bible studies. At any time, she could be found talking with friends and family for hours on end. She also found great joy in watching the Phillies and Eagles games with family. 

    She will be remembered for her laughter, her deep and abiding love and support for her family and friends, as well as her ‘pink party hat’. 

    Joan will be dearly missed by her family.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, David Bolton and his wife, Michele of Milton, DE and Stephen Bolton and his wife, Anita of Oxford, PA; and one daughter, Amy Bonaduce and her husband, Douglas of Kennett Square, PA.  Joan was also blessed with seven grandchildren, Morgan, Ryan, Nicole, Robert, Stephen, Jr., Kierstin, and Kelly.  

     You are invited to visit with Joan’s family and friends from 11:00AM - 12:00 noon on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Avondale Presbyterian Church, 420 Pennsylvania Ave, Avondale, PA 19311.  Her Life Celebration Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 noon.  Interment will be held privately at Longwood Cemetery in Kennett Square.  Contributions in her memory may be made to Avondale Presbyterian Church, https://www.avondalepc.org/donations.
