William R. Hewton, Jr., 92, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away on March 26, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. He was the husband of Susan B. (Jones) Hewton with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of William R. and Eliza Burrows Hewton. Bill was a 1952 graduate of Penn State, where he earned a BS degree in Industrial Engineering and was a member of the Triangle Fraternity.
He joined the DuPont Co. in 1952 serving in the Atomic Energy, Film, Polymer Products, and Agrichemicals Departments, retiring in 1986. He served in management positions involving manufacturing, sales, planning and business development. These assignments also allowed him to travel internationally.
After retirement, he served the Kennett Township for 22 years as a member of the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, and representative to the Regional Planning Commission. He was a volunteer to many non-profit groups including the United Way and the Kennett Senior Center.
He was a long-term member of the Kennett Square Golf and Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf and tennis with his friends.
